Half a day trip to Nami Island

Namiseom Island, or Nami Island, is a tiny island located in Chuncheon. The Island is famous of its tree lined roads, which becomes really famous after Winter Sonata is aired. We visited the island in Winter, and man it was damn beautiful.

Nami Island covered with snow!
Nami Island is located in Gapyeong.

Fortunately, it is very easy to get to Nami Island without any help from the locals. There are several ways to travel to the island.

How to Go Nami Island?

We took the subway to Gapyeong station (98 minutes from Myeong-dong Station). Then we took a cab to Namiseom Ferry (5 minutes). The ferry will take us to island in 5 minutes. The total journey takes about 2 hours.

Alternatively, you can board a shuttle bus at either Namdaemun or Insadong. However, you will have to reserve the tickets at least 2 business days prior to departure. More details can be found here.

Exploring Nami Island

Comparing to Seoul, Nami Island had a really thick snow when we were there! There was an empty field near the entrance for us to play with the dirty snow. We did our first snow angel on the island, and it was so fun!
Snow was really deep!

A mini snowman made by my friend :) Pss, it's really hard to make a snowman actually.

Our playground!
Nami Island becomes really famous because of its beautiful tree lined walkway. After Winter Sonata has aired, the walkway becomes some sorts of sanctuary.
Saw a rabbit hopping around the walkway

Is this a duck?
There are restaurants and eateries in the island. However, we reckoned that they will be very expensive. We had our brunch before we go. The only food we bought on island was the hot Red Bean Bun. It’s a good snack to eat in Winter.

The Bottom Line

Nami Island is one of the must-visit places in South Korea during Winter. However, one should only visit the island when there are heavy snow. We revisited the island two years ago. The experience was rather negative because there was no snow.
